Dadima Kimmex,

Co-Founder & Captain

Dadima is Cambodian and lived there her whole life until she went to the UK for university, where she met the other captain, Azaria. Now, she’s based in Singapore. Growing up, she was always into sports like soccer, basketball, and especially volleyball, which even took her to some international competitions. Team sports were her thing, so running felt totally different at first. It was weird to rely only on herself—until she joined FFRC. Running might still be a solo effort in some ways, but the shared experience of getting up early, pushing through the pain, and suffering together on Saturday mornings is what keeps her going.

Back in the day, Dadima saw running as a punishment. If her teammates were late for 6 a.m. volleyball practice, the coach would make them run laps. The same went for basketball and soccer—suicide runs were just part of the deal. So, she always associated running with suffering. But thanks to FFRC, she’s started to enjoy long-distance running. Running with friends makes it way more bearable. She did her first half marathon in 2022 because all her friends were doing it—she thought it would just be a bucket list thing. Fast forward to 2024, and now the whole club is training for a full marathon. It’s kind of wild when she looks back on it.

Your day one at FFRC?

“My first day with FFRC was alongside my friends Azaria, Adeline, Queenie, and Brandon. We were training for SCSM 2022 as it returned after the COVID lockdown started easing up. Queenie, one of our dear friends, is one of the reasons FFRC exists today—she created the Instagram page and first called us the "Add a Point" Running Club because of our history at Barry's Bootcamp.

That first run was just 6K, but I was struggling to keep up with everyone at a G1 pace. We started at 8 a.m., and it was already hot. I even complained that it was too early (funny how that seems now). But honestly, I was just glad we finished. I still remember it so vividly because it was also my first day running in my New Balance More v4s, which I had just bought the night before and couldn’t wait to try out!”

Wisdom

GO SLOW. It's not about the numbers, it's about the enjoyment. If you lose the enjoyment everything else is meaningless.

Favorite running memory?

“I’ll never forget the 2XU 2023 Race—it was my second-ever half marathon, and I ran without Michelle (it was scary). It became unforgettable because I broke Sub 2, a goal that still holds a special place in my heart.

I remember setting out with the aim of keeping a 6:00/km pace, but as I kept checking my watch, I realized I was inching closer to a Sub 2 pace at 5:40/km. So, I went for it. It hurt like hell, but the sense of accomplishment was incredible. Near the finish line, I started encouraging other runners with what little breath I had left. No one responded except for this one guy. He told me, "I saw you back there! You are so strong." I wanted to say so much more, but all I managed was, "Please help me" and "Together." He understood. With less than 500 meters to go, we sprinted to the finish line together.

It was a beautiful moment, a reminder of how running can bring complete strangers together. Of course, I cried at the finish line. Later, I found him on Strava—his name is Alex—and to this day, we still give each other kudos on Strava.”

What do you envision FFRC to be in 5 Years? What do you want it to be and where do you see yourself in that?

“How about we open an FFRC Kaya Shop? We could offer clothes, kaya, and a shower space—a true home for our runners. I’m hoping I can still run with all our friends at FFRC every Kaya Run!”
